Commanders to honor 'Super Bowl Era' with throwback uniform, helmet during 2025 season

The Washington Commanders will have a new, old look for three games during the 2025 season as the team unveiled its “Super Bowl Era” uniforms and helmet on Wednesday.

In making the announcement, the Commanders did so on the franchise’s 93rd birthday and will honor the burgundy, white and gold look the team wore during their three Super Bowl victories in 1982, 1987 and 1991 when they were known as the Redskins.

“Ever since Josh Harris and our ownership group acquired the team back in 2023, they’ve placed great value in finding ways to connect the past and present and pay homage to those that made the Burgundy & Gold what it is today,” said team president Mark Clouse in a press release.

The Commanders will debut the new uniform and helmet on Nov. 2 when they face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. They will also wear them on Nov. 30 against the Denver Broncos and for their Christmas Day game versus the Dallas Cowboys.

“These uniforms honor the most successful era of our franchise — one that reflects a culture of excellence and encompasses many historical moments and special memories amongst our fanbase,” Clouse added. “We look forward to bringing that nostalgic feeling back to fans, while incorporating a modern feel for our next generation of fans.”

Washington changed their helmet logo in 2020 when they became known as the Washington Football Team for two seasons. In 2022, they rebranded as the Commanders.
