Colts' Shane Steichen has no timetable for JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones' return from injury

The Indianapolis Colts find themselves thin at the cornerback position.

JuJu Brents has missed the last two practices with a hamstring injury and Jaylon Jones dropped out of Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury as well. At this time, Shane Steichen doesn’t have a timetable for either player’s return.

“I think Jaylon’s is a little more severe than JuJu’s, but I don’t have a timetable on their return,” Steichen said after Thursday’s practice, via the Indy Star.

Along with not having Jones or Brents, the Colts also placed David Long Jr. on injured reserve. In an effort to bolster their depth here, the team signed Tre Herndon and Duke Shelley recently.

Working through these injuries, along with Charvarius Ward having a vet rest day during Thursday’s practice, the Colts found themselves a bit short-handed at the cornerback position.

According to Joel Erickson of the Indy Star, Kenny Moore, Justin Walley, and Samuel Womack were with the first team defense, while Alex Johnson and UDFA Johnathan Edwards lined up outside with the second unit.

Both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones would take full advantage.

In need of improved play on the back end after last season, GM Chris Ballard reshaped the Colts’ secondary this offseason, signing Ward, Cam Bynum, and Corey Ballentine in free agency, along with drafting Walley and Hunter Wohler.

The addition of Lou Anarumo and his more aggressive, disguise-heavy scheme should help elevate the play of this unit as well.
