Colin Cowherd says Rams 'took Atlanta to the cleaners' with 1st-round trade

The Los Angeles Rams made one of the biggest moves of the 2025 NFL Draft when the team traded back with the Atlanta Falcons to move from the No. 26 to No. 46 pick.

The Falcons took Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce, but the Rams picked up Atlanta’s first-round pick in 2026.

It was a bold move, but one Rams head coach Sean McVay later said was “too good to be able to pass up.” It gives the Rams added ammo in 2026 to move around the board or use those picks in trades for veterans in 2025. Either way, the trade was lauded by FS1’s Colin Cowherd, who said on his podcast that the Rams absolutely won the trade.

“I feel like the Rams took Atlanta to the cleaners,” Cowherd said, “in a bad draft for the fifth-best edge rusher.”

The implication by Cowherd is twofold: That the Falcons’ 2026 pick could be a top-15 selection and that the Rams got a premium pick for not a great player. While Pearce’s skill remains to be seen, the Rams still got their first-round target in tight end Terrance Ferguson in the second round.

What the Rams do with the extra first-round pick will be a mystery for awhile, but it gives L.A. a lot more to work with if they want to make a bolder move later in the year.
