Despite the rigmarole and drama surrounding Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns’ QB room, Colin Cowherd believes the rookie will start at some point this year. As it stands, Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, and likely Kenny Pickett when healthy, are going to be ahead of Sanders on the depth chart.

The Browns planned on keeping all four quarterbacks going into the regular season, so it’ll be interesting to see, if Sanders does in fact start a game, what the scenario will be. Injuries, struggles or something else?

Sanders is no doubt a fan favorite, despite only being with the team for a few months. He had the skill at Colorado, but his draft slide turned the narrative into a million different directions. But one thing’s for sure, Cowherd thinks Sanders will get a shot, in some scenario, later this year.

I do, and it’s just kind of fascinating,” Cowherd said on The Joel Klatt Show. “I mean, like when you drop in the draft, it’s like Aaron Rodgers dropped to the late first. You don’t get, oh, ‘first round guy dropped to the mid-fifth’ or something. I mean, it’s like, what am I watching? It’s like a boulder coming down a hill and wrecking a neighborhood. It’s like, whoa. I mean, I was like, ‘Okay, I get it, late-second’ and like, by the fourth, I’m like, ‘You’re not gonna get drafted. You’re not gonna get drafted.’

“So it was historic, and yet he was okay with it, like he wasn’t selling something he was a little somber, but he wasn’t sullen, he wasn’t angry, he wasn’t defensive. (Shedeur) was like, ‘Hey, man, I can’t wait to get the opportunity.’ So I was like, alright, that’s an easy guy to root for. I’m okay with that. I thought he handled it pretty well.”

Sanders, who starred at Colorado over the last two years, had a notable draft slide to the fifth round back in the spring. During his appearances in the preseason, he’s shown flashes of very solid play, including his debut against the Carolina Panthers. However, he struggled against the Los Angeles Chargers Saturday.

Over the course of two preseason games, Sanders completed 17/29 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked seven times.

“Obviously. I think overall as a player I’ve put in the work and everything I do I try to do it the best and that’s all I ask for,” Sanders said. “I feel like everybody feels like they should be on the team and if you ask anybody if they feel like they belong they belong in their own eyes. So I feel like I do, but I’m my own player. I think about myself in a high regard.”
