Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Slipping Behind In Projected QB Grade ‘Tiers’ originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
When it comes down to winning a game?
You can’t go wrong with Patrick Mahomes.
When it comes down to analytical attempts to rank what he is and what he does?
One critic thinks he’s slipping.
The NFL’s top QBs in terms of “tiers”? It’s not that hard to go with a top four of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow … with supporters of Jalen Hurts arguing that it’s the Philadelphia Eagles QB who challenges the Kansas City Chiefs star Mahomes when it comes down to “just winning.”
But according to Warren Sharp’s projections, shockingly, a handful of Mahomes’ peers are expected to be better than he will be in 2025.
The NFL analyst has revealed his quarterback tier list made up of 38 signal-callers and he has them ranked from S+ to F. And the three-time Super Bowl champ Mahomes finds himself outside of the league’s top-five with Buffalo’s Allen, Baltimore’s Jackson, Hurts and Washington upstart Jayden Daniels ahead of him.
To be fair, Mahomes still gets a grade of “A+.”
Still, this feels like worthy bulletin board material in KC, where Mahomes has already gone public is expressing displeasure with the naysayers he now plans on proving wrong.

“I’m honestly just ready to play football again,” Mahomes said in an interview on the “Up & Adams Show” with Kay Adams. “Whenever you lose, you kind of have this taste in your mouth that you want to go out there and revenge that or whatever you want to say.”
And… then he sort of fired that warning shot at the critics.
“At the same time,” he added, “I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk and I’m like, ‘Let’s just play football and just handle it all out there.’ I don’t really want to talk about it. I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs.”
They are coming off a poor Super Bowl loss that ended the historic three-peat chance. But while many hand out grades and criticisms and talk and talk about what the Chiefs will or won’t do this upcoming season, Mahomes isn’t interested in fueling those narratives by barking back.
He wants his football to do the talking.
