Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Reveals One-Word Key To Super Bowl Revenge

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Reveals One-Word Key To Super Bowl Revenge originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Last season, the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs, as much as they wouldn’t want to admit, was on the three-peat and being the first team ever to accomplish the feat.

That can be mentally draining, especially when the team was so close to getting it, but there was a pressure that was building all season, and the closer the Chiefs got to the Super Bowl, the bigger the pressure.

But now, a big exhale can take place, and the Chiefs can look ahead to the 2025 season without that burden.

And for Patrick Mahomes, when speaking on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, it’s about getting the fun back into their football.

“I think it’s just us having fun again,” Mahomes said on the Up & Adams Show. “It’s always been fun playing on the Kansas City Chiefs; that’s what makes it special. I feel like last year, I don’t want to say it was pressure, but guys wanted to go out there and win every single week, not for the fun of the game, but just because we’re supposed to. Let’s go out there and have fun. The wins will come if we play the way we know we can play.

“We have the talent. We have the coaches. We work harder than anyone in the NFL. So let’s go out there and have fun and let the results handle themselves.”

“Fun”? That’s it?

That feels like a good way to go about it. … because revenge really can be fun.

And there is no doubt that the shadow of the three-peat loomed large for the Chiefs, and the pressure that came with it likely took the “fun” out of football, which is what Mahomes is alluding to.

Now, they are free from those shackles, and can focus on getting back to playing the type of football that has won them two out of the last three Super Bowls.

Everything still feels in place for Kansas City to again make a deep playoff run, but one thing will be different for the franchise in 2025 – they’ll be having fun.

And when you’re enjoying what you do, good things usually happen.
