After having one previous stint with the Kansas City Chiefs as a former third-round pick of theirs in 2017, running back Kareem Hunt returned to the team last year after starter Isaiah Pacheco went down with an injury in Week 2.
Hunt was originally signed to the practice squad and then elevated to the active roster just a week later, and would go on to have the second-most carries in a season in his career, rushing 200 times for the Chiefs offense, totaling 728 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns.
Bringing a familiar face and understanding to the Chiefs’ offense was big after losing Pacheco, and as a reward for his good season, Hunt was re-signed this offseason to a one-year deal. As the Chiefs opened training camp this week, Hunt was on the field from the very beginning, a much different situation compared to last season, and he’s got plenty of happiness for that.
Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt on training camp this year vs. where he was last year: “I get to be around guys who are pushing me, challenging me, each and every day instead of trying to do that by myself and keep myself accountable.”

Hunt should have a valuable role in the Chiefs running game and is projected to be the top backup behind Pacheco who returns healthy this season. No longer having to wait for an injury to occur to get on a NFL roster, Hunt gets a full offseason and training camp to work with the Chiefs this season.
