Chiefs Excited For Return Of Speedy Receiver Duo originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of football, and for the Kansas City Chiefs, their fans were robbed from seeing their two speedy receivers on the field together for the majority of the year.
The Chiefs signed Marquise Brown last offseason to bring a speed element to the offense and drafted Xavier Worthy as well. But the football gods had other plans — Brown got injured during the first preseason game and didn’t return until Week 16.
That left Worthy as the only down-field option for Patrick Mahomes.
But now, with both healthy and ready for training camp, is head coach Andy Reid looking forward to seeing what the pair can do?
“Yeah, sure,” Reid said. “It’ll be great to have them out there. When they were together out there last year for the part of camp that they were there, that was a positive for us.”
Many have questions over the receiver room, but that mostly comes from the injuries last year, not only to Brown, but also to Rashee Rice.
With Rice’s start to the season in doubt due to his off-field issues, it could be down to Brown and Worthy to carry the offensive load in the passing game, along with Travis Kelce.
Brown did show a little when he returned late in the season, while Worthy finished the year in blistering fashion, culminating with his 157-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Super Bowl.
Now, with all the key pieces back as training camp begins, the Chiefs want to get their deep ball back, and that is a little easier with Brown and Worthy both on the field.
