The Chicago Sky are hosting the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday afternoon, looking to get back in the win column. Just 3-8 through 11 games, Chicago owns the third-worst record in the WNBA this season.

It has been a different story for the Mercury, who enter the weekend 10-4 through 14 games. This is the third-best record in the league, and has Phoenix in prime position for another postseason berth. Phoenix and Chicago faced off earlier this season, with the Mercury securing a 94-89 win.

What was already projected to be a challenging matchup for Chicago became more difficult with some pregame news.

On their initial injury report for this game, the Sky had listed Moriah Jefferson as questionable to play. This was notable, because the 10-year veteran guard has been out all season due to a leg injury.

The upgrade to questionable had fans excited for Jefferson’s potential season debut, but that will not be the case. Announcing their final injury report, the Sky have again ruled Jefferson out.

For her career, Jefferson has appeared in 202 games and owns averages of 8.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. A capable 3-point shooter, her career 38.8% clip from beyond the arc could help space the floor for Chicago once she returns.

Jefferson was dealt to Chicago last season in the deal that included Marina Mabrey, sending the former Sky forward to the Connecticut Sun. The 5-foot-6 guard appeared in 14 games for the Sky, all off the bench, which is the role she will presumably fill this season once healthy.
