It is a good summer to be the Oklahoma City Thunder. After winning the 2025 NBA championship over the Indiana Pacers, the time to invest in this core has come. The stars in Oklahoma City are getting their due.

It started with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This year’s NBA MVP and Finals MVP opened up July with his future in Oklahoma City being secured. Shams Charania reported the Thunder superstar received a four-year, $285 million super max extension.

That deal will keep Gilgeous-Alexander with the Thunder through the rest of the decade, up until 2030-31. After Shai, it was time for another key piece to get locked up.

Chet Holmgren received a five-year, fully guaranteed contract worth up to $250 million, according to Charania. That only left one member of the core.

Jalen Williams joked around at the time that after the big payday, dinner was on Holmgren. However, the latest news may have turned that on its head. Charania broke the news of the third central figure to the Thunder, Williams, also getting his money.

Charania wrote, “Breaking: Oklahoma City Thunder All-NBA star and champion Jalen Williams has agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million, agents Bill Duffy and Justin Haynes of WME Basketball told ESPN.”

Holmgren was ready to turn Williams’ earlier comments right back at him. The Thunder big man thought it was not his responsibility to pick up the tab after that one.

Realistically, after the paydays each of these stars got, both of them can afford dinner. Not to pocket-watch, but of the two, Williams will have a little more spending money for their next outing after his new contract.
