CBS Sports names Jets' biggest remaining offseason need

The New York Jets are searching for weapons to emerge at wide receiver opposite Garrett Wilson this season. As things stand, veteran free-agent signing Josh Reynolds appears to be the in-house favorite to command the WR2 role. Allen Lazard is still lingering around. A sophomore Malachi Corley needs to be considerably more effective than he was as a rookie. Speaking of rookie-year turnouts, does fourth-rounder Arian Smith contribute anything to the offense in 2025?

Those are the questions the Jets will begin answering at training camp. Starting quarterback Justin Fields must identify his go-to targets as he builds chemistry with a questionable group of weapons (Wilson notwithstanding).

CBS Sports recently outlined every AFC team’s remaining offseason needs. Unsurprisingly, they went with wide receiver for the Jets.

New York collected about a half-dozen competent pass catchers in the past few years after acquiring Aaron Rodgers, but then those players gradually moved on over the same period of time,” CBS’ Josh Edwards wrote. “In terms of reliability, the room is essentially Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds. Defensive tackle, apart from Quinnen Williams, may also be on the mind of new coach Aaron Glenn.”

Hopefully Reynolds and Lazard can prove to be reliable outlets for Fields in the passing game. Edwards throws a mention at defensive tackle, which lacks proven assets next to Pro Bowler Quinnen Williams. Head coach Aaron Glenn is tasked with finding solutions all over the roster.
