Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward is already making quite the impression on his team.
After the Titans’ scrimmage on Tuesday, ESPN’s Turron Davenport, who covers the team, asked Ward what he thought about his offense, and Ward did not mince words.
“We’re very mid right now. At the end of the day, it all starts with me.”
Ward’s words may also be used to evaluate how he looked at practice, which, according to most, was unimpressive as he threw three interceptions in the Titans’ Tuesday practice.
The former Miami Hurricanes star realizes that going into his first season, there will be a target on his back, but he is ready for the challenge, as he told Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
“I don’t care about the hype,” Ward said. “I don’t care about social media. All I care about is this 100-yard field. … At the end of the day, football takes care of everything.
“I don’t think I’m being welcomed in [the league] with open arms,” he added. “I was the first pick. I’m blessed to be that. But at the end of the day, there’s a target on my back. There’s a target on everyone’s back in the league, but I’m trying to prove myself to my teammates.”
Many thought going into the 2025 NFL Draft that the first pick would come down to either him or Shedur Sanders of Colorado, but NFL scouts were not only impressed with Ward’s ability on the field but also his leadership ability off of it.
While Sanders’ arrogance was the talk of the draft and turned off many scouts, it was Ward’s poise that impressed the scouts the most, and that seems to have carried onto the field.
Ward didn’t blame teammates for not doing their job; he laid the blame on himself, and that has to give Titans management a sigh of relief that they made the right choice in picking him.
