Caitlin Clark’s Replacement Steals The Show in Indiana Fever Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Indiana Fever are one of the hottest teams in the WNBA.

Indiana is riding a three-game win streak, having recently defeated the Phoenix Mercury, 107-101. They have finally found success despite Caitlin Clark being out of the lineup.

Clark has dealt with several injuries this season, leading to lineup and even roster changes for the Fever.

While Clark was ruled out earlier this season, Stephanie White and the Fever added Aari McDonald. She served as Clark’s replacement in the backcourt as Indiana is still easing the reigning Rookie of the Year back into the lineup.

In the matchup against the Mercury, McDonald showed why she was one of the best free agents available and the perfect fit for the Fever.

McDonald finished the game with 27 points and four assists. The Fever guard posted 17 points in the first half, shooting six of seven from the field.

Throughout her first season with the Indiana Fever, Aari McDonald has posted 8.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. McDonald has also been a menace on the defensive end, averaging 1.4 steals per game.

McDonald’s time with the Fever started with a short-term contract as injuries flooded the team earlier this season and turned into a full-time deal given her fit with the team.

Caitlin Clark has played 13 games this season. While the Indiana Fever star was never viewed as an injury-prone player in her college career or in her rookie WNBA year, her second season in the league has proven to be a different story.

While Clark is sidelined with a right groin injury at the moment, she also missed time earlier this season with a quadriceps injury and a subsequent left groin injury.

Throughout her second season in the WNBA, Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.
