Caitlin Clark Reacts to Unexpected Appearance of Lexie Hull's Future Husband

It was an eventful weekend for Caitlin Clark and a number of her Indiana Fever teammates as Indianapolis hosted the All-Star festivities for the first time. Clark had to pull out of the 3-Point Contest and the All-Star Game after suffering a groin injury earlier in the week, but she still made sure to take part in the activities of the fun-filled weekend.

One of the teammates who joined her was Lexie Hull, who was named as Clark’s replacement for the 3-Point Contest after the reigning Rookie of the Year was forced to withdraw from the competition. Hull, though, got eliminated in the first round as New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu went on to win the shootout with an incredible performance.

It’s back to work for Clark, Hull and the rest of the Fever as they return to action on Tuesday in a road game against Ionescu’s Liberty. Clark has already been ruled out for that matchup against the defending champions, which means that the other players on the squad will need to step up again in her stead.

Hull could potentially be asked to carry a heavier load for Indiana’s backcourt with Clark still out of commission. It appears that the 25-year-old has some extra motivation ahead of the Liberty game after Hull was photographed with her fiancé, Will Matthiessen, as the team boarded their flight to New York.

The Fever took to social media on Monday to share some snaps of the players on the tarmac, and Hull decided to bring a special guest with her.

It is unclear if Matthiessen, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019, will join Hull and the rest of the squad for their chartered flight to the Big Apple. Either way, it’s not exactly common practice for the players to bring their partners with them during team trips, which makes Matthiessen’s appearance in the team post rather unexpected.

Clark, though, is all for it.

“@willmatthiessen love the feature,” Clark posted on Instagram.

Clark and Hull have formed quite a bond during their time together as teammates in Indiana, which means that it’s likely that Clark has also gotten to know Hull’s future husband. They will get a chance to bond even more in the two-hour flight to New York, assuming that Matthiessen joins the trip.

Hull and Matthiessen both went to Stanford for college, where the latter played baseball for the Cardinals. The couple announced their engagement via social media in April.
