Caitlin Clark Offers Up Special Message For Unsung Indiana Fever Assistant Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark has made plenty of news headlines this week with her role in drafting the WNBA’s Eastern Conference All-Star team among other developments.
On Wednesday, Clark’s comments to the media were revealed on an unsung coach whose contributions have made a big difference in the former Iowa star’s day-to-day life with coach Stephanie White’s team in the Hoosier State.
Clark spoke about her as an integral part of her support system, sharing her thoughts at the podium as a name not especially well known to casual NBA fans was revealed.
“I mean, I feel like there’s been a lot of people that have been there for me, and I think my teammates for one, they can see the days when I’m a little bit frustrated,” Clark said.
“I’ve always had a lot of really great people in my circle, and those are the same people I always lean on, friends and family…I think Coach Bri (Briann January) she’s been through injuries herself, and she’s always kind of just been there, even if I’m in in the weight room extra after practice, she’ll come in there and talk to me and just like help me work through the extra lifting that I have to do…Because she’s experienced,” Clark continued in a press conference response shared Wednesday.
The Fever took on the Golden State Valkryies in a rare early game on Wednesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
They jumped out to a slight lead against their expansion team foes as Clark, guard Aair McDonald and guard Kelsey Mitchell made notable plays early in the contest.
White’s Fever had won four of five games heading into Wednesday with Clark’s return garnering plenty of media attention.
The Fever superstar garnered early season MVP hype and now has a chance to improve her standing among her peers with strong play in the midst of a playoff race that is expected to capture the attention of professional hoops fans across the country and the world.
