The Bucs have been projected to draft a cornerback in next week’s NFL Draft in Green Bay. The team needs one more cornerback to really complete that room for them, but there may be an answer outside of the draft. This week, while he didn’t request a trade, the Dolphins announced that their All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey would be leaving the team this offseason.
According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, this opened the window for the Bucs.
Moton named the Bucs as a potential fit for the Dolphins as they look for a trade partner, suggesting they trade their 121st overall pick and Jamel Dean to the Dolphins for Jalen Ramsey. He also writes, “. . .the Buccaneers fielded one of the worst pass defenses in 2024, giving up the fourth-most yards through the air and tying for the fourth-fewest interceptions (seven). Even at this stage in Ramsey’s career, he can force turnovers and plug holes on the back end of a leaky secondary. To stay atop the NFC South, the Bucs need to add a playmaker like Ramsey to the back end of their defense.”
Ramsey may seem like a band-aid to a bigger problem, but the Bucs have shown they aren’t shy in taking that approach. When they won their Super Bowl in 2020, they relied on veterans heavily, it is an approach that worked once for the Bucs, it coudl work again.
