The Bucs have had a youth infusion at the cornerback position over the last couple of draft cycles. They have signed a couple of veterans over the years with mixed success, but they have yet to do that for the 2025 season outside of Josh Hayes.
Luckily for the Bucs, there is a former All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year who remains unsigned after a season spent on the Vikings in 2024.
Stephone Gilmore played a vital role in the Vikings’ defense, which led them to a 14-3 record in the regular season. He showed he had some gas left in the tank even at the age of 34. Pro Football Network agrees with the idea of the Bucs adding Gilmore, writing, “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty much set up at each position and will likely use the draft to continue adding depth in certain spots. With that being said, they could use a veteran corner like Stephon Gilmore to add more secondary assets behind their solid starting tandem. If Gilmore doesn’t retire, Tampa Bay would be a nice and warm place to play out the (likely) final year of his career.”
The team is close to being in contention for a Super Bowl, something Gilmore mentioned mattered to him last offseason when he signed with the Vikings. He waited till right before the season to sign, expect that move to happen again so this move won’t be one we hear soon but it could be one we hear before the season kicks off.
