Buccaneers HC Makes Feelings Known About Deion Sanders’ Surprise Tampa Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
One of the biggest storylines of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offseason surrounds undrafted free agent safety Shilo Sanders as he looks to make an impression on the team and potentially earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
Of course, it can be seen as an uphill battle, but the safety is receiving some nice support from his family, as his father and head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders, made an appearance at the Buccaneers’ practice on Wednesday.
There’s no doubt that Deion Sanders has established himself as one of the more talked-about figures in the sports world, and while talking to reporters, Tampa Bay’s head coach, Todd Bowles, revealed his thoughts on Coach Prime’s attendance.
“Normal day for me, as far as I’m concerned,” Bowles said. “It’s a father coming to see his son, like all of us would be doing.”
Bucs coach Todd Bowles, who has two sons who play college football, had this to say about Deion Sanders watching today’s closed practice: “Normal day for me, as far as I’m concerned. Bowles certainly understands what it looks like to see someone so close chase their football dreams, as he has two sons playing at the college level, with Troy Bowles playing for the Michigan Wolverines and Todd Bowles Jr. with the Long Island Sharks.
However, for Shilo Sanders, the support of his father may not be enough to secure him a spot with the team. Roster cuts are set for Aug. 27, with Evan Winter of A to Z Sports projecting that he will be one of three safeties let go.
That doesn’t mean he would be done with football, though. In Winter’s projection, the Buccaneers would sign Shilo Sanders to their practice squad. Or another team could take a chance as he proved to be a talented player his final year with Colorado with 67 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.
For Deion, this trip to Tampa Bay likely won’t last long, as the Buffaloes are set to start their training camp on Monday in preparation for their first game of the 2025 season on Aug. 29 against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
