BOSTON — With the Bruins missing the playoffs, several Boston players will be representing their countries at the World Championships.
David Pastrnak and Jakub Lauko will both play for Czechia, which won the event last year with Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha. Zacha is resting a knee injury and won’t play.
Jeremy Swayman, who said last week that he hoped to be included, will be on the American squad. He’ll be joined by Andrew Peeke and Mason Lohrei.
Elias Lindholm, who played for Sweden at the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, will don the gold and blue at home.
The IIHF World Championships will take place next month in Denmark and Sweden. The event annually features NHL players whose teams didn’t make or have been eliminated from the playoffs.
Swayman, who played for Team USA at the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, hoped it would be a valuable chance to work on his game after a tough season.
“That’s going to be better training than you can get anywhere else. Go play with top players,” Swayman said. “Just keep the competition alive and still test my ability to play. I want to play 70+ games. That’s something I’ve been working for. It would be a good opportunity to get.”
