The Cleveland Browns have their first player in the news for the wrong reasons this offseason, and it is none other than fifth round rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders was cited for driving 100 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour speed zone.
Is a speeding ticket a call for the end of the world or a reason for the Browns to cut Sanders? Absolutely not. Every team has one player in the news every single season for speeding. There is no precedent for cutting a player based on a traffic ticket.
However, what it might display is a lack of judgment on Sanders’s behalf. Who has already come to the Browns because of how front offices around the NFL perceive him, and is not a lock to make the final 53-man roster in Cleveland. The Browns have been impressed with Sanders on the field, but this lack of better judgment could even factor into how many first-team reps he receives when training camp rolls around next month.
Let’s hope this is a one-off for Sanders, whose stay in Cleveland could otherwise be brief.
