Brewers Trade Aaron Civale to White Sox for Andrew Vaughn originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
For seven years, Aaron Civale has eaten innings at the back-end of major league rotations. But when the Milwaukee Brewers moved him to the bullpen last week, Civale figured he would rather play for a team that still valued him as a rotational piece.
It looks like his wish has been granted.
The Brewers traded the 30-year-old right-hander to the Chicago White Sox for first baseman Andrew Vaughn, according to Jon Heyman at the New York Post. Both players were in similar positions within their organization.
Civale began the season in the Brewers rotation, but made just one start before being sidelined with hamstring injury. He returned May 22 and made four starts before the Brewers announced they were sending him to a relief role. The rise of Logan Henderson and Jacob Misiorowski as younger options in the rotation created redundancy for the former Cleveland rotational staple. For the season, Civale carries a 3-2 record with a 4.91 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP over 22 innings.
Vaughn, a former first-round pick, found himself on the outs with the White Sox after a brutal start.
Penciled in as the team’s first baseman of the future upon debuting in the majors in 2021, the former California Golden Bear never found his strde at the big-league level. Things became as bad as ever this year as Vaughn slashed just .189/.218/.314 before being sent to Triple-A Charlotte.
The trade creates a fresh opportunity for both players as the White Sox at 23-46 could use an established veteran on a young team and Vaughn gets a chance to re-capture the verve that made him a highly valued prospect just four years ago.
