During the FanDuel Sports Network South broadcast of Thursday night’s series finale between the Cincinnati Reds and the Braves in Atlanta, play-by-play announcer Brandon Gaudin talked about Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz’s twin brother, Pedro.
The broadcast also aired on an MLB Network simulcast, and the clip was tweeted by MLB’s official account.
“My favorite story about Elly is that he’s got a twin brother who is 5 (foot) 8 (inches),” Gaudin said. “Pedro. Pedro runs a car wash back home in the Dominican Republic. And De La Cruz tells a story that as boys, Pedro was always the bigger, stronger twin. But around 12, that changed quickly. And then all of a sudden, Elly’s 6 (foot) 6 (inches)! And Pedro never got past 5-8. But the two, they still have a very, very close relationship.”
During the Reds’ Fanduel Sports Network broadcast of the same game, play-by-play announcer John Sadak and analyst Jeff Brantley questioned an obstruction non-call by umpires on a tag of the Reds’ Blake Dunn by the Braves’ Ozzie Albies that resulted in the ejections of Reds first-base coach Collin Cowgill and manager Terry Francona.
