The Toronto Blue Jays returned to action on Tuesday, hoping to bounce back from a series loss to the Chicago White Sox, and they did, stomping the Cleveland Guardians 10-6 on the road, while boosting their record to 42-36. A 14-hit offensive outburst, including George Springer’s 8th-inning grand slam and spark from teammates like Alejandro Kirk and Jonatan Clase, fueled the rout.

Starter Eric Lauer held Cleveland scoreless into the sixth, recording five strikeouts over 5.1 innings and earning his third win. Springer went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Kirk chipped in two RBI singles, as Toronto now shifts its focus to clinching the series on Wednesday.

Ahead of the return matchup, the Blue Jays took to social media to announce the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Robinson Pina from the Miami Marlins in exchange for another right-handed pitcher, Colby Martin.

Pina, 26, made his MLB debut last week with one inning of work and holds a 3.47 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 57 Triple-A innings. Martin, a 16th-round 2024 draft pick, posted a 1.54 ERA in High-A before the trade.

Fans have been reacting to this move.

“Wrong Marlins pitcher,” said one.

“Solid move, let’s see what Piña can bring to the squad!” one exclaimed.

“Interesting move, but you got the wrong Marlin,” said another.

“He can’t be any worse than the pitchers in AAA already,” one added.

“Building trust with them so we can get Alcantara I like it,” said another.

Standing third in the AL East, the Blue Jays trail the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, and will look to remain within touching distance of the top spot with a win on Wednesday.
