Tensions flared in Thursday’s game between the Blue Jays and Guardians as Vladimir Guerrero Jr left the game after being hit by a pitch in his forearm.

One inning after Guerrero’s hit by pitch, Guardians star Jose Ramirez was hit by a pitch, leading to a warning issued to both benches.

With Guerrero’s strong .286/.389/.506 slashline in the month of June, fans were naturally concerned about his hit by pitch being more than a bruise, which seems to always be up to fate.

Fortunately, Guerrero’s X-rays came back negative yesterday, and manager John Schneider today sent a positive update on their $500 million star.

“X-rays yesterday were negative, and talking to him last night on the plane, I think he’ll be okay,” Schneider said, adding that he thinks Guerrero will be in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Red Sox.

Schneider also said: “With a guy like him, you want to be careful, so if he needs an extra day, he’ll get it.”

The 26-year-old slugger was formally diagnosed with a contusion, and it appears he’ll avoid a stint on the IL. Schneider’s candor that he will either return to the lineup on Friday or Saturday at the latest has given fans some relief.

Guerrero has been one of the team’s best hitters of late, and with the ink drying on his 14-year, $500 million extension, it’s no shock Schneider might be patient with him.

The Blue Jays have had several injuries to marquee players this season such as Max Scherzer, Daulton Varsho and Anthony Santander, and the news that Vlad Jr. won’t be joining that list is welcome for Jays fans.
