The Toronto Blue Jays ended their four-game losing streak on Thursday with an 8-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. On Friday night, the Blue Jays will continue their road trip and kick off a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners. Toronto lost their first series against the Mariners in April and will aim for a different outcome this time.
While Toronto has mostly struggled recently, the Mariners have had a fantastic run. The Mariners are 8-2 in their last 10 games and sit atop the AL West standings with a three-game lead over the Athletics.
The Blue Jays will look to get back on track during their series against the Mariners. However, the team made an unfortunate announcement regarding Andres Gimenez before Friday’s game.
In his first season in Toronto after getting traded from the Cleveland Guardians back in December, Gimenez has appeared in 36 games for the team so far. However, the infielder left the Blue Jays’ loss on Wednesday early due to right quad tightness, and he did not play on Thursday.
On Friday, the team announced that they have placed Gimenez on the 10-day IL retroactive to May 8.

Through the first 36 games of his Blue Jays tenure, the 26-year-old is batting .195. Additionally, he has hit three home runs and recorded 10 RBI. Gimenez had picked it up a bit before his injury, however, batting .368 throughout his last five games.
With the Blue Jays looking to turn things around and move up the AL East standings, Gimenez’s injury came at an unfortunate time. Hopefully for him and the team, he can make his return as soon as possible.
