‘Blossoming’ Blue: Could Cowboys’ Jaydon Become Immediate Rookie Starter? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The longer training camp goes, the quicker the “lazy” narrative surrounding Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue fades into the background.
After that wild report caused quite the stir, Blue has put his head down and has continued to work as a model citizen in Oxnard, to the point where he is making everyone take notice of his talents. …
And it is raising speculation about the possibility that he becomes a rookie starter.
Whether that be as a runner or receiver, Blue is making play after play in Brian Schottenheimer’s offense, and it is clear that, come the start of the regular season, he’ll have a role to play, without question.
What that is, we don’t know, but for offensive coordinator Klayton Adams, Jaydon is starting to heat up in Oxnard.
“Jaydon’s been awesome,” Adams said. “He’s fun to be around, he’s got a bubbly personality, loves football, extremely competitive. When the ball’s in his hands, exciting things happen. We’re a week into camp, and I can’t wait till tomorrow to see what some of these guys are going to do, because he’s, in my opinion, blossoming.”
With Blue showing his shiftiness and quickness as a runner and breaking into the second level in a flash, coupled with his nice one-handed catch from Joe Milton, the rookie is stacking good days on top of good days.
Now, we are only at the beginning of camp, so we aren’t making any definitive statements, but Blue is becoming the exact type of player Dallas wanted him to be when it drafted him. …
A genuine dual-threat back who can slice a defense multiple ways, and his blistering speed is the fear factor this offense was missing in the run game last season.
Does that make him an eventual starter here? Too early to tell. But otherwise?
Oh, he’s blossoming, alright.
