Bills WR Tyrells Shavers expresses confidence ahead of NFL roster cuts

Buffalo Bills receiver Tyrell Shavers has been working towards cracking the team’s 53-man roster the past two offseasons, and may have made his best case yet in the team’s final preseason game.

Shavers hauled in a highlight one-handed 11-yard catch on a pass from QB Shane Buchele, and what’s more, it was ruled a touchdown after review.

QB Josh Allen stopped to congratulate him in the tunnel on the way out after the game. When asked whether he believed he’d made a strong enough impression to make the roster, the pass catcher spoke openly on the subject.

“I do. But I thought the same thing last year,” Shavers said in the locker room. “Just put it up and leave it in God’s hands. I have big trust, big faith in Him, but we’ll see where it goes from here.”

It’s not the receiver’s first time impressing with a highlight reel play during the preseason.

Last year, he caught a pass from QB Mitch Trubisky and kept the play alive after the reception, turning a short-yard catch into a 69-yard touchdown. It was his lone catch of the 2024 NFL season.

This year, he’s turned in a consistent performance that’s kept him in the lead for the WR6 spot in the receiving corps.

The Bills‘ front office and coaching staff will now be tasked with determining who makes the cut while assessing receivers like Shavers and Elijah Moore, and veterans like KJ Hamler and Laviska Shenault.

The Bills brass will also be assessing the talent made available via cuts from other teams around the league in case there are players they want to add to Buffalo’s position groups on the 53-man roster or practice squad.

Buffalo will need to finalize their roster by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Shaver’s big-play and yards-after-catch abilities certainly help bolster his case to make it.
