Defensive end Joey Bosa joined the Buffalo Bills in free agency this offseason after spending his entire career with the Los Angeles Chargers.
With the start of the 2025 NFL season right around the corner, Bosa spoke about how he’s settled into his new home in Western New York and his new team.
“It’s, first day of school kind of feeling. Yeah, and you kind of get comfortable, obviously, in the same place for a long time. So it’s a good mix up,” Bosa said this week.
The pass rusher spent his first nine NFL seasons in Los Angeles, the NFL’s second-largest market, and now has moved to the second-smallest market, albeit with nothing but good things to say on both fronts.
“I have nothing negative to say about my past and the Chargers. And I think the staff there is amazing. And I think they’re going to be very successful for a long time,” he added. “I think it’s just a great place here. It’s a small little town. That’s, I don’t know, what do they call it? Best kept secret or whatever. So yeah, really enjoying living here. Like I said, everybody’s super nice. The culture is great.”
It is not uncommon for players looking for new contracts and homes in free agency to find that, whether on a multi-year deal or on a short-term pact, to return to the market next offseason.
Bosa inked a one-year deal with Buffalo, which could always potentially become a longer stay if things work out on both sides.
The five-time pro-bowler, the team, and the fans have quickly embraced each other in the meantime.
Defensive coordinator Bobby Babich spoke this week about a play that Bosa and fellow veteran Daquon Jones made that highlighted his
“There was a play yesterday, Terrel Bernard broke up a ball about five yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Our first group of defensive line was out there, and Joey Bosa and DaQuan Jones turn and sprint to the ball. It’s broken up, they turn and sprint,” Babich said.
“I said, Joey, how many years, in front of the whole defense, how many years you played in the league? Ten. DQ, how many years you played? 12. Just look at the room. Do I need to say anything else? So, to your point, those are the type of things that professional football players do.”
The story highlights the veteran leadership he already sees in Bosa’s addition to the roster.
“If you want to make it in this league, it’s an all the time thing, and everything matters. Everything matters.”
