“Best Possible News”: Fans React to Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark Update

Caitlin Clark has been ruled out for the Indiana Fever’s game Thursday against the Las Vegas Aces with a right groin injury, but an official update from the team was enough to give downtrodden fans some hope.

No new injury for Caitlin Clark

The Fever confirmed that “no additional injuries or damage” showed up in medical evaluations after Clark reportedly sought advice from doctors across the country.

The 23-year-old guard sustained the right groin injury against the New York Liberty before WNBA All-Star weekend. Clark, who was a team captain for the All-Star Game and set to compete in the 3-point contest, was forced to sit out while the events were held in Indianapolis.

Given that the right groin issue is the fourth separate muscle injury to cause Clark to miss time in 2025 (including the preseason), the fact that no new injury was found was the best thing for fans to hear.

“the best possible news,” said a popular fan account on X. “rest up caitlin.”

“great news,” said another fan. “dont rush her.”

“No further injuries is the best news we’ve had in weeks,” mused another X user. “That’s how crappy this year is.”

“Finally some good news…” echoed a reply. “Rest up! Get to 110%.”

The Fever have an 8-5 record with Clark in the lineup, lifted by her defense-altering skill set and average output of 16.5 points, 5 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.

Without Clark, Indiana has a 4-7 regular season record, but they did manage to win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final without their star point guard.

When will Caitlin Clark return from her injury?

The official update from the Indiana Fever clearly stated that there is “no timetable available for Clark’s return,” but the type of injury and upcoming schedule are key factors when considering a possible return date.

Before her current right groin injury, Clark went 15 days between games with a left groin injury. It is not known if the severity of the injuries is equal, but a two-week timeline would keep Clark out until Wednesday’s clash with the Phoenix Mercury at home. That would include missing Sunday’s road game against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.

After facing the Mercury, the Fever play four road games in seven days to begin August — a risky time to try to work Clark back into the lineup.

Whether she returns before that or after, fans were simply happy to hear on Thursday that nothing new was wrong and that she can focus on her recovery for the time being.
