Belquist, Curry win top honors at UND athletics awards banquet

May 1—GRAND FORKS — UND thrower Kenna Curry and Fighting Hawks wide receiver Bo Belquist took home top honors Wednesday night at UND’s Night of Champions at the Empire Arts Center.

Curry received the Grace Rhonemus Female Athlete of the Year award, while Belquist was named the Red Jarrett Male Athlete of the Year.

Curry, a native of Elk Point, S.D., ranks No. 5 in the NCAA in the hammer throw this spring.

Belquist, UND’s all-time receptions leader, racked up more than 3,300 career receiving yards. The New Rockford, N.D., native recently landed an invitation to the San Francisco 49ers mini-camp.

Freshman Leo Galliano of men’s tennis won Male Newcomer of the Year, while freshman Grace Miller of the soccer program won Female Newcomer of the Year.

Galliano, a Switzerland native, was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year this spring.

Miller was UND’s starting goalkeeper and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 100 freshman list — a ranking that included just two from the Summit League.

Treysen Eaglestaff’s 51 point-performance against South Dakota State in the Summit League tournament earned the Best Individual Performance honor.

Eaglestaff, a Bismarck native, entered the transfer portal following the season. After originally committing to South Carolina, Eaglestaff reopened his recruitment and has picked West Virginia. He’s also working out for the NBA Draft with a mid-June deadline to pull back and retain eligibility.

Teammate Mambourou Mara’s dunk against Dickinson State was named the Play of the Year. Mara entered the transfer portal after the season and has yet to announce his next destination.
