Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany backs Luis Díaz through early missed chances

Bayern Munich signing Luis Díaz has seen his share of missed scoring opportunities in his first few appearances for his new club, in both friendly and competitive matches. Against FC Augsburg on Saturday, he opened the game with another one, on what should have been tap-in territory…but he got a second chance and buried it later on.

Head coach Vincent Kompany is not concerned at all.

“When you watch the game closely, it’s not always his teammates preparing the chances for him. He works himself a lot for these chances because he’s always active,” Kompany explained in comments captured by captured by @iMiaSanMia. “For me it’s more important to score a goal in the right moment than maybe score four or five in a game and then go without scoring for five months. He’s always there, always a threat and we’re happy with his energy.”

Indeed, Díaz has two goals and two assists from two Bundesliga matches. Not a bad start.

Amid all of the transfer craziness surrounding Bayern Munich’s work with Chelsea over a loan deal for Nicolas Jackson, there was an actual game to be played — and Bayern Munich was up to the task even if a slow start and a midgame loss of focus might have given Die Fuggerstädter some hope.
