Barcelona are going through an important week, where the club are expected to try and complete multiple deals and bring in fresh revenue.
As far as the squad-building is concerned, the club are actively involved in the pursuit of Nico Williams. But the Catalans are also determined to complete the renewal of star players, including Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona have been in talks with the Dutch over a new deal for quite a while now, but the two parties now appear close to reaching an agreement.
De Jong contract renewal imminent
According to AS, the renewal of Frenkie de Jong is now considered imminent, marking a stunning turnaround in a situation that seemed irreparable just a year ago.
The club are pushing to finalise and sign the new contract before the June 30 fiscal deadline for a crucial strategic reason.

By registering the new, lower-salaried contract in the current financial year, Barcelona can create significant salary space.
This would make it easier to register new goalkeeper Joan Garcia and would provide the necessary margin to sign and register top target Nico Williams, should his transfer from Athletic Club be completed.
Barcelona have so far faced significant resistance from Athletic Club in their attempts to sign Nico Williams.
However, once De Jong signs a new deal, the club would have a little more financial leeway, which could go a long way in altering the situation of the pursuit.
As for De Jong, the Dutchman will be delighted to sign a new deal at Barcelona, having played a significant role in Hansi Flick’s midfield setup this past season.
Given his tremendous growth and experience, one would expect de Jong to become a key leader for Barcelona in the years to come.
