Banned D-backs fan defended himself after causing multiple interference reviews

The Arizona Diamondbacks made the decision on Tuesday to ban the fan who was revealed to cause multiple home run reviews beyond the left-center field wall at Chase Field.

And now, we’re hearing from the fan himself.

Dave McCaskill, a D-backs season ticket holder, was at the center of controversy when he dove for a potential home run off the bat of the Giants’ Christian Koss on Monday. At the time, D-backs outfielders Tim Tawa and Alek Thomas were visibly upset with McCaskill for the apparent interference, which had fans noticing McCaskill’s regular role in near-homer runs. Koss was ultimately awarded second base after review.

Come Tuesday, McCaskill suspected that the team would take some sort of action. He had been told to hold off from attending Tuesday’s game as the club reached a decision. He defended himself as a loyal D-backs fan but also bragged that he’s actually caused around 10 replay reviews.

He did apologize though, via arizonasports.com:

“If you watch the video, I catch the ball and my glove comes down. The angle of the camera, it wasn’t the best angle, but that’s my defense. But I apologize to the D-backs. … I would never interfere. Alek Thomas is my favorite player.”

The Diamondbacks decided to ban McCaskill for the remainder of the 2025 season due to repeated violations of fan conduct. He hoped to be welcomed back again next season.
