When we talk about the greatest Pittsburgh Steelers of all time, it’s usually a daunting task just because of the long history of elite players this franchise has had over the years. So when it comes to creating a Mt. Rushmore of the greatest players of all time, it’s almost impossible for there to be any consensus.
But Bleacher Report narrowed things down a little and put together their Mt. Rushmore for every NFL team; they only used players from the 2000s. A slightly easier task for certain. Here’s who they had for the Steelers.
EDGE James Harrison
QB Ben Roethlisberger
DT Cam Heyward
S Troy Polamalu.
If we are being 100 percent honest, this is exactly the group we would have gone with. A case could have been made to add a guy like T.J. Watt but he doesn’t supplant Harrison and there would be plenty of guys who might want to include wide receiver Antonio Brown.
There is one name we do keep coming back to and wish we could find a way to include and that’s guard Alan Faneca. Faneca was named an All-Pro eight times in the 2000s with the Steelers and is one of the best offensive linemen in franchise history. But if you put Faneca on, who do you take off?
