At Chase Field: Pfaadt endured a rough first inning in his last start in which a pair of plays weren’t made on the infield behind him, but he escaped with only two runs allowed and gave up just one more over the next four innings. It was another decent outing for a pitcher who is trying to put a miserable stretch of starts behind him. … He had a rough start against the Giants in San Francisco in May, giving up four runs in four innings. … Pfaadt’s fastball has been getting destroyed; he has allowed a .466 slugging on the pitch, but the expected slugging, based on quality of contact, is .707, according to Baseball Savant. … Ray will be making his first start at Chase Field since 2020, when he was with the Diamondbacks. … Ray spent parts of six seasons with the club, establishing himself as a major league starter in that time. In 147 starts with the Diamondbacks, he logged a 4.11 ERA in 793 innings. … Ray averages 93.6 mph with his fastball and racks up whiffs on his slider (32.3 percent whiff rate), change-up (42.7) and curveball (36.9).
