Are Manchester City slowly opening the door to sign their top target for the right-back position?

With Ederson having confirmed his intention to remain at Manchester City for next season there appears to be one position for City to further strengthen in the transfer market. That is the right-back position. With Manchester City having signed Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Marcus Bettinelli and Tijjani Reijnders this summer, and there being no need to sign a new number-one goalkeeper, right-back is the only position that looks to need strengthening in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

It has appeared all summer that Newcastle United’s versatile full-back Tino Livramento is Manchester City’s top target to fill the void at right-back. Although, signing him from Newcastle will be a tough task for Manchester City. Newcastle are seemingly intent on keeping Livramento at the club. Now, a new report indicates that Tino Livramento may have had his head turned by Manchester City’s interest. So perhaps City are slowly opening the door to make a move for Tino Livramento in the coming weeks.

Manchester City are reportedly set to bid for Tino Livramento as per a new report.

Dean Jones and Daniel Feliciano have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are plotting a bid for Tino Livramento. Furthermore, Jones and Feliciano report that Newcastle have no intention of selling Livramento this summer. Jones and Feliciano further report that the Manchester City hierarchy believes that Tino Livramento has had his head turned by Manchester City’s interest in signing him. That could set the scene for a City move for the versatile Newcastle United full-back in the coming weeks as per the GIVEMESPORT report.

Matheus Nunes could do a job for City at right-back, but if they could sign Tino Livramento, it would complete the perfect summer for City.

Currently, Matheus Nunes would be Manchester City’s first-choice right-back. Rico Lewis or Manuel Akanji can play the role but based on his form at the FIFA Club World Cup, Nunes would seemingly be Pep Guardiola’s preferred choice at right-back. To his credit, Matheus Nunes has taken to the right-back role well. He has had some difficult moments in the position, but the more he’s played there the better he has become. If Manchester City didn’t sign a right-back he could do a job for Pep Guardiola’s side next season. But if City could sign Tino Livramento they’d enter next season with a squad with little to no holes in it.

If Tino Livramento has had his head turned by Manchester City’s interest in him, City have a chance of signing him. Although convincing Newcastle United to sell Livramento will be no easy task. As Jones and Feliciano report they have no intention of selling one of their key players. It would likely take an astronomical offer from City to bring Newcastle to the table so to speak. But if Livramento wants a move to the Etihad that could change the equation. Livramento’s intentions arecurrently unknown. A better indication of his intentions may emerge now that the European Under-21 Championships have ended.

Summary.

There is one hole in the Manchester City squad left to address. That is at right-back. It appears that Tino Livramento is City’s primary target for the role. Signing him from Newcastle won’t be an easy task. But perhaps it is a move that could happen based on the information contained in the GIVEMESPORT report. If City can sign Livramento they’d enter the 25/26 season with a squad with no obvious weakness. So whether or not Manchester City can sign Livramento is now a story to monitor.
