Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning can settle the score in his team’s season opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Manning will be the full-time starter after backing up Quinn Ewers for the last two seasons. He has two starts under his belt and has played in 12 games overall.

While the Longhorns are the favorite to win the national title, the quarterback’s name appeared on On3’s Pete Nakos list of quarterbacks under the most pressure in 2025, coming in at No. 8.

Nakos believed the name on the back of the gunslinger’s jersey adds to the pressure the quarterback must face.

“For two years, the eyes of Texas have waited to see Arch Manning take the full-time starting job for the Longhorns,” Nakos said. “He now steps into that role with a big-time, early-season test with Texas visiting Ohio State in Week 1. Manning is trying to balance multiple aspects of pressure entering the year. The Longhorns are viewed as a national title favorite. But Arch Manning also carries the Manning name, drawing more attention to his every move on and off the field.”

The Texas star was forced into action after Ewers exited the UTSA game due to an oblique that was suffered in the 31-12 Week 2 win over the Michigan Wolverines.

Although Manning has not had meaningful college football reps, people are already discussing his NFL future. Joel Klatt compared Manning to former Clemson Tigers and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Even at the high school level, Manning’s name was highly regarded, as he was the top national prospect and quarterback in the 2023 class. The Longhorns are still pursuing that same kind of quality talent, but in the 2027 class instead.

Texas is pursuing five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, and he recently revealed that the Longhorns’ ability to send players to the NFL stood out.

Manning has a chance to relieve the pressure against Ohio State on August 30. Kickoff is at Noon ET on Fox.
