There is never a dull moment when New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is around.
Before going viral this past Thursday night for eating W’s alongside fellow quarterbacks Jaxson Dart and Tommy DeVito, Winston put on an interesting locker room display as the team hosted a special guest.
While appearing on a recent episode of Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. shared a story of Winston attempting to (playfully) “fight” other players.
“We had a UFC fighter come to our practice, and she gave him some gloves and signed them and everything,” Tracy said. “Jameis comes in the locker room and starts like doing UFC-like kicks and fights with the gloves on. He’s really trying to fight people in the locker room, showing us how he kicks and everything.”
Like many other Giants, Tracy feels Winston has stood out. He’s uniquely funny, eclectic, and comfortable in his own skin.
“I promise you, I thought I was an outgoing person until I met him. He’s literally one of one. He’s a great person and a very down-to-earth guy,” he said.
Because of the emergence of rookie Jaxson Dart, Winston has been the subject of trade rumors and speculation. However, assistant general manager Brandon Brown recently shot all of that down, stating flat-out that Winston isn’t going anywhere.
“I appreciate people that are interested, but Jameis is a New York Giant,” Brown said. “With the way that he’s gone about his business from day one, he’s made it very intentional with the fact that he wants to be here and he wants to be here for the long haul.
“Teammates love him, his preparation process, whether it’s the off-field things that he does in terms of community relations, Bible study, things in the locker room, galvanizing the group together, not just the quarterback room, but the offense as a whole. He’s been comic relief, but he’s also been a really good example of how to be a pro in handling your business in terms of prehab, rehab, postgame care. So, I’m happy he’s here, and he’s going to continue to do those things. He hasn’t wavered and he hasn’t been shaken by any distractions at all.”
Winston has been nothing but a positive influence on the Giants and his teammates, even when he’s playfully delivering some UFC-like kicks.
