The Los Angeles Angels lost their three-game winning streak on Friday with a 2-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The offense struggled, which spoiled an overall strong night for the the pitching staff.

Saturday presented a fresh opportunity for the Angels to respond and regain their footing in the AL West, and they wasted no time putting themselves on the scoreboard thanks to superstar outfielder Mike Trout.

The three-time AL MVP launched a two-run homer in the first-inning to put LA on the board, which marked his 11th home run of the season. This homer also put him in historic company.

This homer was career number 389 for Trout, tying Hall of Famer Johnny Bench for 65th all-time in MLB history. At the same time, it was his 101st career first-inning homer, the 12th most ever in league history.

Achieving such milestones continues to cement Trout’s legacy among baseball’s greatest.

Since returning from injury, Trout has steadily regained form. He entered Saturday’s game with a batting average of .224 with 34 hits, 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 42 games, and is back to producing MVP-level contributions. Trout’s performance will, no doubt, continue to remain crucial for a team looking to right its course.

Currently fourth in the American League West with a 33-35 record, the Angels are tied with the Texas Rangers and are one game behind the Seattle Mariners. Los Angeles will lean heavily on Trout’s bat and veteran presence as they aim to climb the standings and restore themselves into playoff contention.
