Angel Reese Turns Heads With Unexpected Development After Sky-Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Sky entered Saturday’s marquee matchup against the Indiana Fever with some high hopes. Instead, the Sky ended up losing in embarrassing fashion at home as the Fever secured a dominant 79-52 blowout win at United Center.
Angel Reese had another forgettable outing in the loss, finishing with four points on 2-of-7 shooting, 12 rebounds, two assists and three turnovers in 27 minutes of action.
It is worth noting, though, that the former LSU star was still able to register double-digit rebounds in the loss, which just goes to show her dominance on the glass. Her 12 boards were the most of all players in the game, and they represented 40% of the Sky’s 30 rebounds on the evening.
Reese has been so good with her rebounding that it has now literally overshadowed her scoring. The Sky All-Star has now amassed more rebounds (532) than points (526) in her WNBA career.
Reese has long been known as a rebounding specialist, but more than a few fans on social media were left in disbelief by this unexpected development.
“This can’t be true,” a comment on X read.
“Imagine that 🤭” said another.
“Bruh how is this possible 😭😭” wrote a user.
“Never in my life heard so much about damn rebounds lol..” a reaction read.
“There’s no way 😭” another said.
“I’ve never heard of a stat like this…” posted a reader.
While a few other supporters argued that Reese has long been known for her rebounding prowess, most fans just couldn’t fathom how Reese now has more boards than points in her career.
Critics on social media could not help but bring up her inefficiency from the field and how this has become a major issue for her. For what it’s worth, Reese is currently making just 30.9% of her shots this season, which is a significant dip from her 39.1% shooting clip last year.
On Saturday, Reese recorded eight more rebounds than points. If this trend continues, it would not be surprising if the discrepancy between her rebounds and points grows even more.
