Angel Reese Sends Message After Chicago Sky Suffer Major Loss on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Sky have struggled to start the WNBA season.
Chicago is led by first-year head coach Tyler Marsh. They began the season with a 0-4 record, tying worst first start to a season in franchise history.
Marsh took over for Teresa Weatherspoon, who served as the head coach of the Chicago Sky for the 2024 season, Angel Reese’s rookie year.
As the Sky turned the page to a new chapter for the organization, Marsh was looking to help them take a leap forward with Reese and several other established stars such as Courtney Vandersloot.
Vandersloot was playing in her first season back with the Sky, after competing with the New York Liberty last year, helping the Eastern Conference team win the WNBA Finals.
While she had a solid start to the season, making a return to the team that once drafted her, Vandersloot was hit with a major blow.
During the 79-52 loss to the Indiana Fever, Vandersloot went down with an injury. She was helped to the locker room and didn’t return to the floor.
After further evaluation, the Sky announced that Vandersloot has torn her ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.
Upon the release of the announcement, Angel Reese took to social media, sending a message to Vandersloot.
“Love you 22,” Reese said.
On Sunday, the Chicago Sky posted the official diagnosis and potential timeline, less than 24 hours after she suffered the injury against the Fever.
“Courtney Vandersloot underwent an MRI yesterday that revealed a right torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the June 7th game against Indiana,” posted the official social media account of the Chicago Sky. “Vandersloot will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury. All of Skytown is behind you Sloot.”
Courtney Vandersloot began her career with the Chicago Sky in 2011. She played 12 seasons with the Sky before her two-year stint with the New York Liberty.
During her first season back in Chicago, Vandersloot posted 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
