The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a quiet offseason, which was expected as almost all of their core from last season is set to return next year.

Of course, the Thunder are coming off a dominant season that they were able to cap off with a championship, their first since relocating to Oklahoma City.

While the Thunder have had a quiet offseason, they have made multiple moves as they signed their star trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams to max contract extensions and they also selected Thomas Sorber 15th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

For Sorber, he was a standout in his freshman season at Georgetown last year but Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman believes that he is going to need to stay patient during his rookie season in the NBA.

“Between Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s willingness to play small with Jalen Williams or Luguentz Dort at the 4, Thomas Sorber will have to remain patient,” Wasserman wrote. “He’ll likely spend time in the G League continuing to sharpen his post game and shooting.”

Wasserman makes a great point about Sorber needing to stay patient as the Thunder already have Holmgren and Hartenstein in front of him, along with Jaylin Williams off the bench.

Because of this, Sorber will likely spend time in the G League next season but he should also get an opportunity to show his skills at the NBA level for a Thunder team that will enter next season as the favorite to win the title.

For Sorber, he did not play in the NBA Summer League due to an injury but he proved last season at Georgetown that he is a great scorer and rebounder who also excels on the defensive end.

With the Thunder in need of more big men in their rotation, Sorber should get a chance at the NBA level at some point next season but expect Oklahoma City to take it slow with him during his rookie campaign.
