Without a true answer at their starting quarterback spot, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked as a favorite to land future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
And there have been assorted reports on timetables and the like.
And now that the NFL schedule has been released?
The assorted reports on timetables are lies. Or, at least, are wrong.
All offseason the two have talked and met at the Steelers facilities. Supposedly an offer of one year and $30 million has been slid to Rodgers’ side of the table, but he has taken his time to decide, leaving NFL world waiting on a decision on whether he will sign with Pittsburgh, announce he is signing elsewhere or retire from the sport as a whole.
Chris Mueller, a Pittsburgh-area radio host, said we may not have to wait too much longer.
“The Steelers are making a big announcement tomorrow. And I believe it’s that they’re signing Aaron Rodgers,” Mueller said on Monday.
Oops. It’s Wednesday. And the big announcement is about the Steelers official 2025 schedule.
Speaking of which …
The team now has a full schedule for the 2025 regular season. In total, the Steelers receive four primetime placements and an additional stand-alone game.
Week 1: at New York Jets
Week 2: vs. Seattle Seahawks
Week 3: at New England Patriots
Week 4: vs. Minnesota
Week 5: Bye
Week 6: vs. Cleveland Browns
Week 7: at Cincinnati Bengals (Thursday, Oct. 16)
Week 8: vs. Green Bay Packers
Week 9: vs. Indianapolis Colts
Week 10: at Los Angeles Chargers
Week 11: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Week 12: at Chicago Bears
Week 13: vs. Buffalo Bills
Week 14: at Baltimore Ravens
Week 15: vs Miami Dolphins
Week 16: at Detroit Lions
Week 17: at Cleveland Browns
Week 18: vs. Baltimore Ravens
And no Aaron in sight.
ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio tried to “play reporter” early this week by saying we will hear from Rodgers about his future “sooner than later”. … and Florio even suggested that Rodgers might make his Steelers-related announcement on Wednesday night to upstage the NFL’s big evening.
Oops. It’s late Wednesday. It never happened.
Then there is the rumor about Rodgers joining a Pittsburgh golf club – although that was proven false.
For Rodgers, the Steelers are one of the few teams that could turn into a contender with his addition alongside star receiver DK Metcalf. The New Orleans Saints are another option with the abrupt retirement of Derek Carr last week, but they wouldn’t likely be an immediate contender by just signing Rodgers.
The 41-year-old quarterback is on the free agency market after two disastrous seasons with the New York Jets that included a torn Achilles in 2023 and a 5-12 record in 2024.
Despite the poor record, Rodgers proved that he could still play at a decent. Last season he completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns.
But …
Steelers faithful who thought they were getting major news on May 14 as each team announced their 17-week game schedules?
They got it. But they also got a lot of misinformation about Aaron Rodgers.
