Aari McDonald Had Something to Say After Caitlin Clark-Less Fever Beat Aces originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever did not have the services of Caitlin Clark on Thursday night as they hosted the Las Vegas Aces at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The 23-year-old missed her third straight game due to a re-aggravated groin injury, which only meant that the rest of the squad had to step up in her stead.
Aari McDonald has been starting in Clark’s place for the Fever, and the veteran guard answered the call against Las Vegas. McDonald finished with nine points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals in 22 minutes of action. She also hit three triples on the evening, with her third one being perhaps the biggest shot of the night.
McDonald hit a step-back trey with 33.8 seconds remaining in the game to put the Fever ahead, 78-70. There was no coming back for the Aces from that point as McDonald effectively ended any hope for A’ja Wilson and Co.
McDonald took to social media after the win, and the 26-year-old had something to say about her clutch heroics.
“I almost hit my infamous pose right here😤” she posted on X.

McDonald shared a video of herself celebrating her big shot with her Fever teammates. As it turns out, the former No. 3 overall pick’s immediate reaction to the three-pointer was somewhat subdued. As she said, McDonald considered busting out her “infamous pose,” but she ultimately decided otherwise.
Either way, it was a massive moment for McDonald and the Fever, who secured their first win in three games. Up next for them is a rivalry showdown against the Chicago Sky on Sunday, and McDonald will likely remain in the starting lineup for that one, with Clark looking doubtful to suit up again.
