NEWTON TOWNSHIP — Jude Garber cracked a double, single and drew two walks, and visiting Morgan scored seven times in the fifth inning to break open a tie game in a 10-6 win against Maysville in a Muskingum Valley League crossover on Wednesday.
Garber and Clayton Blackburn, who singled home two in the seventh and had three RBIs, drove in four of the team’s runs. Blackburn also pitched 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts to get the win as Morgan improved to 4-6.
Bryce Fisher doubled and singled and Slade Shreve and Trevor Hague had three singles for Maysville.
Sheridan 7, Philo 1: Connor Roshon struck out nine in a four-hitter to lead the host Generals to a bounce-back win against the Electrics in an MVL-Big School win.
Logan Jones hit a solo homer and Brody White doubled and singled for Sheridan, which scored four times in the fourth inning to break a 1-all tie.
Josh Gooden allowed one earned run and struck out four in five innings for Philo. Masen Runkle’s double led the offense.
Cambridge 7, Barnesville 5: Garrett Carpenter tossed 6 1/3 innings to get the win for the Bobcats in a Buckeye 8 win at Don Coss Field.
Rylee Wilson drove in a pair of runs on a double and two singles and Michael Micale singled twice for Cambridge, which led 7-2 in the fifth.
Lakewood 3, Zanesville 1: The Blue Devils recorded only two hits in close Licking County League-Buckeye Division Ioss at Jay Payton Field.
Layne McBrayer and Avery Mohler combined to allow 10 hits and three runs but walked only two.
Ridgewood 6, Sandy Valley 5: Grant Lahmers scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a single from Brody Harding to secure an Inter-Valley Conference win in Magnolia.
Jace McQueen cracked two triples and a single out of the lead-off hole to pace a nine-hit attack for the Generals. Logan Ridenbaugh continued his hot streak with a pair of singles.
Connor Croy struck out six and walked none in a complete game to get the win.
Fairfield Christian 8, Rosecrans 5: Jacobie Balo ripped a triple, double and single, but it wasn’t enough for the Bishops in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division loss at Beavers Field.
Hayden Perdue had a double and two singles and Coen Grandstaff a double for Rosecrans, which committed five errors and threw six wild pitches.
A.J. Holbrook struck out 13 in a complete game for FCA.
Softball
Sheridan 13, Philo 3 (5 inn.): Cora Hall drove in five runs with a homer and single for the Generals in an MVL-Big win at home.
Philo led 3-0 after an inning on Kyleigh McGraw’s two-run double, but the Generals tied it in the third and scored 10 times in the final two innings.
Brooke Cadigan added three singles, Payton Powell doubled and singled and Kennedy Grosse launched a solo homer for Sheridan; Megan Ranck struck out three in four innings to get the win.
Ridgewood 3, Sandy Valley 2: Kaydence Lahna scored on a two-out passed ball in the sixth inning to break a tie game for the Generals in an IVC win on the road.
Maysville 15, Morgan 1 (5 inn.): Chloe Baker’s double and two singles accounted for almost half of the Raiders’ hits in an MVL mercy in Newton Township.
Layney Kangas added two singles and Kaydence Maxwell a double for Morgan, which had eight hits.
Sophie Dennis had two singles for Maysville.
Lakewood 13, Zanesville 1 (5 inn.): The Lady Devils had only one hit in an LCL-Buckeye Division loss at home.
Brianna Hoisington’s two doubles and a single led Lakewood. Cyaria Wallace’s double paced Zanesville.
Barnesville 12, Cambridge 1: Miranda Cole’s double was the lone highlight for the Bobcats in a Buckeye 8 loss at Cambridge City Park.
