Local Roundup: Several Meadville athletes win gold at McDowell

ERIE — Meadville’s track and field team competed at the McDowell Invitational on Friday and landed on the medal stand numerous times.

The boys finished fifth with 53 points and the girls tied for seventh with 36 points. There were 15 boys teams and 16 girls teams.

Junior Megan Puleio won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:01.59, about 26 seconds faster than second place. Her time eclipsed the state qualifying standard, which is 5:07.00.

The Bulldogs’ 4×100-meter relay team placed third. Samantha Fronce, Maleigha Jolly, Marlaya McCoy and Tatum Gorney combined for 52.39 seconds. The 4×400-meter run, with Puleio, Fronce, Miller and Tiernan Zinz, placed fourth (4:23.76).

Sophomore Addison Miller finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (52.88), McCoy placed fourth in the triple jump (33-feet and 3-inches) and Alivia Gomora was second in javelin (103-6).

For the boys, junior Tymir Phillips won the long jump (22-10.25), was third in the 100-meter dash (11.14) and third in the 200-meter dash (23.17).

Jordan Lawrence won the triple jump (44-10.5). Brennen Dinsmore took gold in the shot put (55-9) and second in discus (140-2) with Asher Johnson fifth in javelin (149-6).

The 4×800-meter relay squad of Ben Welsh, Paul Puleio, Griffin Aitken and Nolan Minnich finished sixth (8:57.09)

Eagles top Tigers

FAIRVIEW — The Conneaut girls lacrosse team beat Fairview 15-7 on Thursday.

Victoria Medrick and Paige Davis led the way with four goals each. Lilly Detelich and Haylee Morini each scored twice with Debella Durkin and Mickey Bernhardt adding one each. Christine Hunter had seven saves.

Conneaut is 3-3 overall and will host Meadville on Tuesday.
