Former 4-Star Michigan Guard Transfers to Play for Penny Hardaway's Memphis Tigers

The Michigan Wolverines’ year one rebound under coach Dusty May went swimmingly well in Ann Arbor as the Wolverines challenged for a Big Ten regular season title and wound up winning the Big Ten Tournament title.

The Wolverines followed their solid regular season up with a Sweet 16 run that included a narrow loss to the tournament’s number one overall seed.

Prior to May’s arrival, point guard Dug McDaniel was one of the leaders on former coach Juwan Howard’s team.

Now, McDaniel is headed to his third NCAA team to play for another well known former NBA star in Tennessee.

The 5-foot-11 guard announced that he will join Hardaway’s Tigers as the seventh transfer of this offseason.

McDaniel is a high-octane, athletic point guard who still needs to work on his efficiency as a shooter.

He averaged 11.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, 5th-best in the Big 12 in the assists category, while shooting 37.8% from the field.

McDaniel committed to Memphis one day after former Ohio State center Aaron Bradshaw, who averaged six points and 2.7 blocks for the Buckeyes while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field.

McDaniel said he feels like himself again since making his decision to leave Manhattan, Kansas for the Tigers and their well known coach.
