UFC champ Dricus Du Plessis debunks injury rumors, says 'fight announcement coming soon'

UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis says rumors of him being injured are not true.

A report recently emerged that Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) won’t be able to fight expected challenger Khamzat Chimaev (14-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) at UFC 317 on June 28 because of an injury. Top contender Caio Borralho told Ag Fight that he’d heard Du Plessis broke his shin and would be sidelined for six months. Chimaev also reacted to the report.

Not only did Du Plessis say he was healthy, but he revealed that the June 28 date was never official for his next title defense. He took to Instagram to clarify the situation and teased that fight news is imminent.

“Okey so everyone had their opinions and rumours and stories about a shin break and injuries etc.I found it all very entertaining, unfortunately none of it is true myself and @ufc already discussed a fight date and opponent, the June fight was never signed I did not pull out of any fight, I am the champion I know when I fight you as a contender just show up when we tell you to. Fight announcement coming soon stay tuned. 🇿🇦 #preparetobeamazed #stillknocks👑.”

Du Plessis most recently competed in February when he defeated Sean Strickland a second time in their UFC 312 rematch.
