Roundup: Lakewood softball back into tie for first in LCL-Cardinal

Anna Crist doubled and singled, driving in three runs, and Cora Redman knocked in two more with a pair of doubles as host Lakewood moved back into a share of first place in the Licking County League-Cardinal Division with an 11-6 crossover victory against Licking Heights on April 23.

Ashlyn Carder smacked a double and two singles with an RBI for the Lancers (14-2, 7-2), which pulled into a tie with Heath as the Bulldogs fell to Mount Vernon. Winning reliever Averie Adams added two singles with an RBI and Jaycie Montie doubled. Lauren Griffith had two RBIs and Briana Hoisington doubled with an RBI.

Alissa West and Lily Reich each had two RBIs for the Hornets (8-8, 4-5), while Lydia Rauch and Natalie Mahoney both had two hits.

Heath falls at home

Visiting Mount Vernon (13-2, 8-2) exploded for 12 runs in the fourth inning to beat Heath 17-6 in a LCL crossover.

Kyndall Spicer went 3 for 3 on a home run, double and single with two RBIs for the Bulldogs (10-8, 7-2). Sydney Cottrell had an RBI double and Kylie Green also drove in a run.

Valley tops NC

Emory Whisner spun a two-hitter, walking only one with eight strikeouts, as visiting Licking Valley downed Newark Catholic 6-2 in a LCL crossover.

Liz Korns went 3 for 3 on a double and two singles with an RBI for the Panthers (12-4, 8-2). Alexa Gilliam had a two-sin single and Chloe Cooperrider an RBI double.

Veronica Bailey had a two-run double for the Green Wave (4-8, 2-6), while Aly Rothweiler pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Watkins cruises

Gracie Gerhardt homered and singled, and Paisley Conley had two RBIs with a pair of hits as visiting Watkins Memorial blanked Northridge 13-0 in five innings in a LCL crossover.

Kyliee Trouten and Carlie Taggart each had two hits with an RBI, while winning pitcher Kendal Tellings had a run-scoring double for the Warriors (11-6, 7-2).

Ryleigh Myers had the only hit for the Vikings (4-10, 0-9).

Johnnies whip Granville

Addy Zak chased home four runs with a double and two singles, while Cam Bollinger had three RBIs on a pair of doubles as Johnstown zapped visiting Granville 10-3 in a LCL crossover.

Jenna Hochanadel ripped a triple and two singles, scoring three runs, and Reese Lyons also had three hits with an RBI for the Johnnies (6-8, 5-4). Emma McGeehan added two singles and Lucia Kuhn went the first 5⅔ innings to get the win.

Carly Wollenberg’s three-run double led the Blue Aces (6-9, 3-7), while Megan Lodge and Jillian Brownfield also doubled.

Fletcher stars

Kenzie Fletcher belted a homer, double and single with three RBIs as host Utica defeated winless Zanesville 19-0 in a LCL crossover.

Kaitlin Evans had a triple and two singles with two RBIs, while Emily Meyers added a double and single with an RBI, Jayden Rauch delivered a two-run triple, and Cheyenne Smith, Bethany Glancy and Bailey Torrens each drove home a run for the winners (5-9, 3-5).

Newark romps

Lilly Holmes chased home four runs with a triple and single, and Calyn Music also tripled and singled with two RBIs as host Newark routed Canal Winchester 18-3 in the OCC-Buckeye.

Lexi Shanaberg drilled a triple and two singles, Mallory Back collected four singles with two RBIs, Tyana Spears had two singles with an RBI and Karma Wells also had two hits for the Wildcats (6-12, 6-4). Winning pitcher Maygen Woody tossed a five-hitter.

BASEBALL

Roberts on point

Evan Roberts struck out 11 in six innings while not allowing an earned run as visiting Licking Valley took down Newark Catholic 9-4 in a LCL crossover.

Silas Kyle whacked a triple and single with two RBIs for the Panthers (10-3, 7-1). Zane Hancock also knocked in two runs with a pair of singles, while Evan Lichtenauer, Brandt Lichtenauer and Carter Sopher each chipped in with an RBI.

Malone Hutchison doubled and singled, Hal Gillespie had two singles with an RBI and Miller Hutchison also had two hits for the Green Wave (6-5, 3-5). Mikey Hess doubled.

Granville rolls

Wilson Wells and Chase Holtzapple teamed up to drive home seven runs in visiting Granville’s 16-0, five-inning LCL crossover mercy of Johnstown.

Wells homered and doubled with four RBIs and Holtzapple doubled and singled with three RBIs for the Blue Aces (11-2, 8-1). Theo Talbott, Lewis Turner and Jacob Smith each had two singles and Jakob Culver doubled. Jackson McMillan allowed just two hits over four innings.

Jackson Ryan and Landon Myers had the only hits for the Johnnies (6-6, 3-5).

Heath walks it off

Cam Stephens singled home Quentin Sunkle, who had led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, giving Heath a 4-3 LCL crossover win against visiting Mount Vernon.

Kanin Brown pitched a four-hitter, yielding just two earned runs, and Connor Corbett stole two bases for the Bulldogs (8-3, 6-2).

The Yellow Jackets slipped to 6-6, 4-4.

Lancers win again

Carson Anderson had three RBIs on a pair of singles and Garrett Hardway added a two-run double, lifting LCL-Cardinal leader Lakewood past visiting Licking Heights 11-1 in a five-inning crossover contest.

Jobe Glaser had a run-scoring double, Evan Moore also doubled, while Carter Davis and Nash Wattling each chipped in with an RBI for the Lancers (11-1, 7-1). Jalen White allowed just one hit over the first four innings.

Grady Stephens had the lone hit for the Hornets (1-10-1, 0-7-1).

Watkins rallies

Visiting Watkins Memorial scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning after trailing 5-3, coming back for a 6-5 LCL crossover win against Northridge.

One run scored on a throwing error after Brandon Kandel’s bunt single, Aydan Guthrie tied it with an RBI single and the winning run scored on a passed ball for the Warriors (6-5, 5-3). Guthrie had two hits, Tyler Vincent and Dylan Gray each drove in a run, and Kaden Barrows went 5⅔ innings in relief to pick up the win.

Kash Reeves tripled and singled with two RBIs, Will Higgins had a run-scoring double, Titus Hardin also doubled, while Noah Mason and Brice Beaver each had an RBI for the Vikings (4-7, 0-7).

Utica victorious

Braxton Fisher knocked in three runs with a pair of singles and Weston Simon had a two-run double in host Utica’s 12-3 LCL crossover win against Zanesville.

Jaxson Riggs pitched a six-hitter for Utica (3-10, 1-6), and Elijah Bland and Gavin Tussey each had an RBI double. Gaige Spray, Nate Hite and Aidyn Burgess each drove home a run.

The Blue Devils dropped to 6-9, 2-6.
