Former LSU football left tackle is expected to be one of the first players taken in Thursday night’s NFL Draft. Most recent mock drafts have Campbell going No. 4 overall to the New England Patriots. At this point, Campbell looks like a lock for the top 10.
Seeing an LSU star go early in the draft is no surprise. The Tigers are among the best at producing NFL talent. Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Derek Stingley Jr. were all top-five picks in recent drafts.
But Campbell is entering rare territory for an LSU player. LSU is used to seeing its wide receivers and defensive backs go early, but the Tigers don’t have the same luck producing offensive linemen.
LSU has never had an offensive tackle selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, meaning Campbell will make history on Thursday night.
In 1965, LSU tackle Dave McCormick was picked in the first round of the AFL Draft, but waited until the fifth round in the NFL Draft. Alan Faneca is the only offensive lineman in LSU’s history to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, going No. 26 overall to Pittsburgh in 1998.
Campbell leaves LSU as one of the most decorated players in program history. He’ll add to that on Thursday night.
